Victory????
"Singapore won Pedra Branca, Malaysia won the middle rocks." The ownership of South Ledge is not clear as the court just rule that it belong to the state which territorial water the feature lie in. This media is overly pro-government. In my opinion, a much more unbiased sentence will be "Singapore won Pedra Branca but lost possession of Middle Rocks to Malaysia". See the difference, the first sentence try to portray a win-win stituation for both country but is it true?
I do not agree with Professor Tommy Koh that this result is still good. Singapore needs Pedra Branca to safeguard its maritime trade which is vital to her survival. Losing the Middle Rocks and maybe the South Ledge, two tiny geographic feature relative to Pedra Branca may seen as a useless gain for Malaysia but what if the surrounding sea around them is suitable for reclamation? all of us has eyes to see how Singapore had expanded because of reclamation. Hence if Malaysia took the same step, they will have the land to install things that can disrupt trade activities in time of conflict with Singapore. This will be terrible!!
Hence I am in favour of getting the Middle Rocks and maybe the South Ledge if they are reclaimable at all cost even if it means using the returning of CPF contribution of Malaysians as a bargaining chip. Come to think of it, the International Court of Justice seems to be kind to Malaysia in recent years, granting them control over Sipadan and Ligitan Islands in the dispute with Indonesia and preventing them from suffering a crushing defeat in today judgement. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that they are bias towards Malaysia however I will start to think so if they they were given control over the Spratley Islands if the dispute were to be referred to the ICJ in the future.
Malaysia is not behaving like a big country, they are trying to destroy Singapore. Because to them we are a reminder of their national humiliation. Imagine someone you kick out doing better than you, it is a joke! Malaysia please stop dreaming! We will never crawl back to you and beg you to take us back in again. Malaysia a developed country by 2020? I think there must be a typo, it should be 2200. If Malaysia can become a developed country by 2020, Singapore can reach the 2010 World Cup final :P
WARNING!!! Some of you may think that my next worry is far-fetched and unfounded but to me it is possible. First they dispute Pedra Branca, so what next? IT WILL BE SINGAPORE!!! Don't laugh it off. I have been reading my newspaper dutifully for a few years now and if I did not remembered wrongly, last year the Johor Sultan told a group of foreign reporters during the launch of the Iskandar Development Region that his ancestors was cheated by the British in the ceding of Singapore.
Maybe I'm overly sensitive but this to me is the first sign that Malaysia is plotting to question our rights to live on Singapore. We better start putting together all the evidence that Singapore belong to us and destroy any things that suggest otherwise even if it means silencing relevant parties and torching down the British Archive!!! Our survival is at stake!!! If Singapore has a far right party, I will be first to join them and vote them into Parliament as this country lack patriotism and nationalism, we seems to be just a group of inhabitants coming together for the sole purpose of making money. This is not a country....
It could be due to the fact that I have became politically more aware of my surrounding recently but this year has been a very bad year for PM Lee's government. It is true that his government could not be faulted for the loss of the Middle Rocks but they do have to bear complete responsibility for Mas Selemat's escape. I will be surprised if they do not lose more seats during the next election. If they still retain the same majority, I will be preparing for migration as I do not want to live in a country where the people are too hum chi to penalise the ruling party.
Let us remembered that today 23 May 2008 as the most humiliating day of the Republic of Singapore, the day we fail to protect our land despite overseeing them for 130 years. This is comparable to that fateful day where then Chief Minister Lim Yew Hock sign the agreement in the 1950s which Singapore transferred the control of Christmas Island to the Australia government for a mere million dollars if I'm not mistaken.
Labels: Sad day for all Singaporeans
